There are three main cinemas in Johor Bahru, Tanjung Golden Village located in Jusco Tebrau City, Golden Screen Cinemas in Pelangi Leisure Mall and Cathay Cinemas located in the City Square, Johor Bahru. Although Pelangi Leisure Mall cinema technology is not the best that is still considered acceptable. Above all, it offers the cheapest among the three entries. Cathay is the state of the art of cinema in the city but that technology experience in the heart of the city establish a copy of at least 40% more than other theaters.

Cathay Cineplex formerly known as Mega Pavilion Cinemas, the Cinemas Cathay Cineplexes opened its third cinema, on February 3, 2000 in Johor Bahru City Square, Johor Bahru. The City Square Cinema offers 5 screens through an area of 24,000 square feet.
